Statue of Laocoon and the origins of the Vatican museums

In Vaticans museum until 28 february 2007 we can see an exhibition that celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Vatican museums and that is dedicated to the fantastic statue of Laocoon discovered 500 years ago.

Popes have been committed to safeguarding the culture and art in the Vatican museum, that constantly promoved cultural events.

In this event, the original statue of Laocoon, is compared to others pieces like black Lacoon of Primaticcio and drafts maded by Michelangelo, Raphael, Rubens, Bernini and much more.

Nativity scenes in Rome, Sala del Bramante

The annual exhibition takes place at the Sale del Bramante in Rome.

"100 Presepi" presents approximately 200 nativity scenes, creating from differing Italian regions and various countries in the world. The scenes are created by Italian and foreign artists. The form and materials in these nativity scenes are really really varied: Neapolitan
classics, Roman versions from the 19th Century, or imaginative versions with famous elebrities, life-size or miniature, made from precious metals or recycled materials, with folkloristic characters or based on the traditions of different countries. Marry Christmas!!!

Caravaggio from Windsor ...to Rome!

Back in Rome, Stazione Termini, a very important Caravaggio painting �The Calling
of Saints Peter and Andrew�.

For years its origins were uncertain, but after being restored it was finally attributed to Caravaggio by two of the most important experts on Caravaggio: Sir Denis Mahon and Maurizio Marini. This fantastic painting for many years it was left, almost forgotten, in Hampton Court.

Concerts in Rome in december! Rock music with Ligabue and classical Christmas concerts

Rome will host italian rocker Luciano Ligabue in concert and Claudio Baglioni in a series of concerts at the Palalottomatica venue.

The "Romaeuropa festival" continues to delight with its live performances featuring Jeff Mills and the "Cocoon Night Event". Other concerts worth pointing out are by Modena City Ramblers, Renzo Arbore, Antonella Ruggiero, and Afterhours.

Classical music lovers will have to choose between Carmen, The Nutcracker, La Sylphide and "Mozart � The Sound of Beauty". A series of "Christmas concerts", performances by the Aventino Choir and others in Borromini�s Sacristy will also be on offer.
